| Distribution and Distributors
Private investors may or may not require a distribution agreement to
be in place before the commit. A loan on your film in most cases, will
require a distribution agreement.
Why you may need a distribution agreement before you begin
production on your film project?

or
The Benefits of not having a distribution agreement in place
before the film is finished.

Why you may need a distribution agreement before you begin
production on your film project?
|
- A motion picture distribution agreement helps secure production
funds
by giving potential investors confidence in the viability
of the project.
|
- You won't waste valuable time (and money in the form of interest
payments) shopping the completed film/video to various
motion picture distributors who have agendas that might
not correlate with yours.
|
- With a motion picture marketing and distribution plan in place,
you'll be more focused on creating a commercially successful
production.
|
|
The Benefits of not having a distribution agreement in place
before the film is finished.
|
- A motion picture distribution agreement can limit the amount offered
to you by a distributor because they have not seen the finished product
and would only pay you or offer to pay you an amount equal to your last
sale.
|
- If you have never made a sale before from your film or show, then the
offer from a distributor or a distributors agent would be significantly
less then if a film is finished.
|
- Making a film first and then shopping for a distributor can get you
much more on your film, but the negative side of this, it it make take
years to find a good deal on distribution and your investor may grow
impatient .
|
- A good budget on your project should include some kind of allocation
for minimal print and advertising and travel in order to take your project
to events, festivals and mail outs to possible distributors. Having a
small amount budgeted will help get your project sold without taxing your
wallet, or hitting up the investor again or seeking other investors.
